# Waterfalls near Itacaré: Tijuípe and Noré

The two waterfalls most people visit from Itacaré are Tijuípe, about 23 km down the BA-001 with lifeguards, a restaurant and a R$30 entry fee, and Noré, in Taboquinhas, which is wilder and means crossing the Rio de Contas. You need a car, a taxi or an agency tour for both.

## Cachoeira do Tijuípe

Tijuípe is on a private farm at km 44 of the Ilhéus to Itacaré road, just inside the municipality of Uruçuca, between Itacaré and Serra Grande. The turn-off is signed and parking is by the road. By the OpenStreetMap driving route it is about 23 km from the deck, roughly 25 minutes.

There are two falls, a larger one and a smaller one. The main fall is low and wide: a regional guide gives it 4 metres high by 15 across, which makes for easy, relaxed swimming. On site you will find lifeguards, kayaks, a gentle trail to the little fall (the cachoeirinha) and an à la carte restaurant. The farm also grows tropical flowers, orchids and bromeliads, and sells seedlings if you want to take one home.

- **Hours:** daily, 9:00 to 17:00.
- **Entry:** R$30 per person; children up to 8 go free. From the official website, checked October 2026. Confirm before you go.
- **What to bring:** swimwear, a towel, flip-flops and shoes for the trail.

The waterfall's own tip is to come in the morning, when it is quieter.

## Cachoeira do Noré

Noré is in Taboquinhas, an inland district of Itacaré, near the Vila Rosa cacao farm. Taboquinhas is about 29 km from the deck by the OpenStreetMap driving route, along the BA-654. That road has a dirt section that can be in poor condition, according to a guide updated in 2025, so allow more time than the map suggests.

To reach the fall you cross the Rio de Contas by canoe or small boat, then walk 10 to 15 minutes through cacao farms. Sources put the drop at 15 to 18 metres, and it is also used for abseiling. The waterfall is on private land, and a 2025 local guide advises checking for entry fees before you go. There is a regional food restaurant nearby.

Taboquinhas is also where rafting on the Rio de Contas happens, so you can combine the two in one day.

## Best season and best time of day

For Tijuípe, go early: it opens at 9:00 and is quieter in the morning. For Noré, rain is what matters. A Taboquinhas rafting guide names November to March as the months of higher water, and April to October as the calmer months on the rapids. High water makes the fall look its best, but after heavy rain the dirt road and the rocks get slippery. On days like that, pick Tijuípe.

## Getting there

- **Car or taxi:** the simplest way to Tijuípe, south on the BA-001 towards Serra Grande.
- **Agency tour:** makes sense for Noré. The agency handles the dirt road; ask whether you can add rafting in Taboquinhas.
- **Signal:** most of Itacaré's rural area has no mobile coverage. Arrange your ride back in advance and download the map to your phone.

## Fitting it around class

Power Vinyasa runs 8:00 to 9:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 8:00 to 9:30 on Saturday. Leave the deck at 9:00 (9:30 on Saturday) and you reach Tijuípe shortly after it opens, at its quietest. Noré takes a full day: Sunday, when there is no class, works well. For the rest of the week, [book](https://espacolevealma.com.br/book/) your classes ahead; each takes up to 10 people.

## Questions

**Can I eat at the waterfalls?**

At Tijuípe, yes: the farm's restaurant serves à la carte lunch. Near Noré there is a regional food restaurant, but check it is open that day.

**Do I need a guide?**

Not for Tijuípe, where the farm runs everything. For Noré, go with an agency or arrange the river crossing with someone in Taboquinhas.

**Which one if I only have a morning?**

Tijuípe. It is closer, has fixed hours and fits in a morning, with time to be back in Itacaré for lunch.

**Is it suitable for children?**

At Tijuípe, children up to 8 enter free and there are lifeguards. At Noré, the canoe crossing and the rocks call for closer care with little ones.

## On the deck

Power Vinyasa and Yoga Sculpt, six mornings a week, in Portuguese or English.
