Heat and humidity
Itacaré is warm all year. The Brazilian travel guide Melhores Destinos gives average highs of 28 to 29 °C from November to March, and lows of 21 °C in the cooler months. Classes are in the morning: Power Vinyasa from 8:00 to 9:00 (until 9:30 on Saturday), and Yoga Sculpt from 9:30 to 10:30, when the day has warmed up a little more.
You will sweat, most of all in Yoga Sculpt, with its music, flowing sequences and light hand weights. That is why water and a towel matter more than anything else on the list. Bring your bottle full: class runs 60 minutes.
Clothes
Wear what you would wear for a walk in the heat: light fabric that dries fast and lets you fold, twist and stretch without fixing your clothes after every move. Shorts or leggings, a sports top or a T-shirt. A hair tie helps.
Yoga is usually practised barefoot, here on the wooden deck. Come in flip-flops or sandals: they are easy to slip off at the entrance, and the walk up from Praia da Concha is short and uphill.
Insects
The deck is open air, under the trees at Pousada Tikuna. That is what keeps class shaded and green, and it can also bring mosquitoes on some mornings. Put repellent on at home before you leave, on your ankles, legs and arms, so it has dried by the time you lie down on the mat.
Sun
The deck is covered, so you practise in the shade. The sun gets you on the walk there and, for most people, on the beach straight after. Put sunscreen on before you leave and bring a cap or hat for the way back.
Rain
Rain can come in any season in Itacaré: at the nearest official weather station, the months with data count 10 to 16 days with at least 1 mm. The deck's roof keeps the water off and class goes on. A light rain jacket or an umbrella sorts out the walk. In heavy rain, any change goes out on WhatsApp and Instagram before class. More on the weather in when to visit Itacaré.
If the beach comes next
Praia da Concha is a few minutes' walk down from the deck. If you plan to head straight to the sand, a small bag does it: a sarong or beach towel, sunscreen to reapply, a dry T-shirt to change into after class and your water bottle, which will want a refill by then. Swimwear under your class clothes saves a change.
What the deck lends you
You do not need to bring any equipment. Mats, blocks and the Yoga Sculpt hand weights stay on the deck and are lent at every class. If you have a mat you love, you are welcome to bring it.
Before your first class
- Classes take up to 10 people. Book on the studio's calendar; Saturday usually fills first.
- Card payment is online. To pay in cash or by Pix, message the studio on WhatsApp (+55 73 99926-1285).
- Class is in Portuguese, English or both, depending on the group.
- Beginners are welcome: the teacher calls out options as you go.
- Hands-on adjustments only if you want them. At the start of class, with eyes closed, a small sign says no.
Everything you need to know before you arrive is on the first visit page.
Questions
Can I come in swimwear and head to the beach after?
Yes, if you can move freely in it. Wearing swimwear under your class clothes is an easy way to go straight to the sand.
How much is a class?
A single class is R$70. If you are staying a few days, the 4-class pack lasts 30 days; the other plans are on the prices page.
Should I eat before class?
Do what works for you. A piece of fruit or something light is usually enough for an early class.
What if I forget my towel?
Class goes ahead just the same. In Itacaré's heat you will miss it, though, so pack it the night before.
